Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about how Jemco’s products work.
From POS integration to batteries and shelf mounting, here is what retailers usually want to know before getting started.
POS integration and price changes
Do I have to change prices in two places?
No. Your POS remains the source of truth. When a price changes in your POS, the shelf tag updates automatically with no separate price change required in Jemco.
Which POS systems does Jemco work with?
Jemco already has integrations for Clover and Square. If you use another POS, we will work with you to gather the needed information and build the integration. Jemco typically does not charge a separate fee for this service.
How does this work with multiple locations?
Each location’s shelf labels follow the prices in that location’s POS, exactly as they do in a single store. Your prices can be the same across every location or different at each one; there is nothing extra to maintain in Jemco.
Can we customize what appears on the labels?
Yes. Jemco provides starter templates, and you can edit them or create new layouts to show the item information and design elements you want.
What is a template?
A template is the visual layout of an electronic shelf label—the arrangement of the product name, price, unit price, sale messaging, and other information it displays, along with its colors, fonts, and any graphics. Jemco provides starter templates, and you can edit them or create different templates for different items, departments, and promotions.
Do all my labels have to use the same template?
No. You can use different templates for different items or situations. Regular-price, sale, clearance, BOGO, and other promotional labels can each have their own look.
Installation and hardware
Do we need technical staff?
No. The system is designed so a store’s regular retail team can learn, install, and operate it. Jemco provides phone or video training and can talk even nontechnical employees through the trickier parts.
Who physically installs the labels?
Your team handles the physical installation. Jemco helps determine what you need, supplies the labels, gateways, and mounting hardware, and provides remote training and support throughout the process.
How do I assign a label to an item?
Scan the tag, scan the item, and done; the tag now belongs to that item. Its display changes to show the assigned item’s information.
Do the labels need power at the shelf?
No. The labels use replaceable coin-cell batteries and e-ink displays, so no wiring or shelf power is required. Battery life is measured in years—often around five years—though exact life depends on the label model, update frequency, and store environment.
What internet or network infrastructure is required?
The store needs internet access. Gateways communicate with the shelf labels and connect the store to the cloud system, and reliable Wi-Fi helps the handheld tag-assignment scanner work smoothly. The number and placement of gateways depend on the store’s size and layout; Jemco helps determine the right setup.
How do the labels attach to the shelves?
Mounting depends on your fixtures. Options include shelf-front rails, magnetic mounts, peg-hook attachments, stands, and other specialty hardware. Jemco helps select the appropriate mounting method for the shelving and displays in your store.
